Community Capacity Building

2017

Funding provided by: Department of Justice

The Capacity Grant brought eleven Northern Justice Workers together on two separate occasions. The Justice Worker conferences gave the opportunity to develop relationships and to learn how community services network for the benefit of our clients.

During the first conference, the Justice Workers had the opportunity of learning from our Prince George partners, including:

  • Area Manager for Community Corrections
  • Regional Native Courtworker Manager
  • Community Policing team including, the Car 60 team, which consists of an RCMP member and a community mental health nurse
  • A tour of the RCMP detachment; the Courthouse and PGRCC
  • Crown Counsel

The second conference was held at Camp Trapping, as an opportunity to experience first hand a valuable resource for their youth, who are in conflict with the judicial system.   This conference included a two- day FASD overview by White Crow Village of Vancouver, BC and ended with a Sweat Lodge Ceremony led by Marcel Gagnon, Lheidli Tenneh Elder and Pipe Carrier, complete with a Traditional Feast.
